I messed up. In the excitement of just making it to the 22-mile mark to see my dad run by, I forgot to change the exposure before shooting. In trying to recover some of the shots, this moment grabbed me. The overexposure highlighted the intimate moment of a grandson delighting in being picked out of a crowd of spectators by his Pata. It’s not how I intended it to be captured, but I think this is a more accurate view of how it will be remembered. Sometimes what we intend isn’t the best...and sometimes happy little accidents show us a better picture. ❤️ #overexposed #houstonmarathon2019 #grandson
In awe of their “pata,” Houston marathon finisher. His 14th marathon and he makes that insanity look easy...but I’m not fooled. So proud!
Last daylight of 2018 with these crazies ❤️
My dad has such an outward focus, with his lens, his ears, his time. He’s the reason we have family photos every year and why we have so many family stories preserved. He is often the one to give voice to others, from city council meetings to the eulogist’s podium. And never does he ask for much, or anything, in return.
I learn so much about living with an outward focus from you, Dad. I’m grateful every time I get to photograph events with you or talk about big choices. Thank you for showing me the value of leaning into the small moments that matter greatly, especially this year.
I love you, Dad—happy birthday! #hbd
